The American Heart Association offers resources and tools to stop smoking and a walking program.
Stop Smoking Resources and Tools for Quitting
- Printed material and step by step information to quit smoking
- Live Help – advice about quitting through real time text messaging with a National Cancer institute smoking cessation counselor.
- Counseling and information about quitting within the state of Virginia thru an 800 number.
- Although this program does not provide gum or other stop smoking aids, they do recommend that you see your doctor to get these aids.

Start! is the American Heart Association’s groundbreaking national campaign that calls on all Americans to create a culture of physical activity and health to live longer, heart-healthy lives through walking. This physical activity can reduce the risk for heart disease and stroke.
