| Backup Child and Elder Care |
Backup Care Options for Child and Elder Care will be provided as an employee benefit beginning 07/01/2008. Employees will be able to identify, access and secure high quality care with minimal effort or burden for the person seeking care in the event of a temporary disruption to regular care arrangements.
- For any age dependent
- In every location
- Every day of the year
- At any time of the day or night
- Under any circumstance
- Usually on short notice
Care will be provided to address temporary breakdowns in regular child, adult, and elder caregiving arrangements:
- Unexpected issues - illness, unreliable caregivers, school closures
- Predictable times - holidays, caregiver vacations, surgery
- Difficult to resolve situations - no family support, non-traditional work hours, loved ones who live elsewhere
- Designed to allow employees to get to work.

National Provider Network
The Provider Network includes thousands of in-home agencies and child care centers nationwide offering top quality providers.
Center-based care:
- 3,000+ child care centers
- Available close to work or home
- An active, structured environment with group/social interaction
In-home care:
- 2,000+ home healthcare and nanny agencies
- Care available 24-hours, weekend, overnight Dependent does not need to reside in the employee’s home
Provider Screening
- Agencies/Centers are licensed, bonded and insured
- Caregiver screening includes;
- State and National criminal background checks
- Personal and professional references
- Previous residences
- DMV and credit checks
- Caregivers must meet rigorous quality standards
- Training and service level expectations
- CPR and First Aid trained
How It Works
- Each benefit-eligible employee has a bank of 10 backup care days for personal use during the year –this year will be 5 days with program start date of 7/1/2008
- Individuals are encouraged to register in advance
- When care is needed, the employee will call the toll-free number and consult with Backup Care specialists
- The specialists will identify the most appropriate care provider within the network to meet the specific need
- The specialist will respond to the caller within an agreed upon time frame to discuss available options
- Backup care is then provided
Additional Program Details
Program Questions and Answers
Program start date is July 1, 2008
- All benefit-eligible employees are eligible for 10 days of care per calendar year.
- Employees will have 5 days this year July 1-December 31, 2008
- Co-pay applies when care is used:
- Center-based care: $15/day per child
- In-Home care: $30/day - up to 3 dependents
- There is no cost to register for the service
- Employees are billed for co-payment directly after the care is completed
- Money is never exchanged at the time of care

- University ID, located on your ID badge and in the Integrated System self-serve
